November 2003

November 1 Saturday

CC * 40 * MD * 10:00 AM * Laytons Village SC (LAV)
Rocky Mountain Revisited & Shortened.  Rolling terrain around Damascus and Mt. Airy - Karen Berlage led this A/BB ride recently which includes many "old" roads we haven't seen for a long time.  I'll have to figure out a 40-mile version of this great route as we wind down from a stormy summer.  John Hutchinson [hutchjm@us.ibm.com] 301/926-8767

CC(MH) * 35/41 * MD * 9:30 AM * Libertytown Fire Hall
Three Unions & A Windsor.  Sharing many of the roads and two rest stops done by other classes, we make shorter connections between the stops. The ride leader intends to do the 41mi route; the shorter one is much the same, and equally scenic--and a good one for "C" riders to keep pace with others.  See the "B" ride description for directions and further promotional fluff. Joan Oppel [oppel.js@verizon.net] 703/527-1037.

November 2 Sunday

CC * 15/30 * MD * 1:00 PM * Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) 40% DRY
Sunday Roll on Capital Crescent. If the weather is mild we will make our way to National Airport or cut it short at Georgetown. After the ride we will warm up at a local restaurant. No go in rain or wet roads. Larry Bouterie [yatnola@yahoo.com] Cell 301/346-1243 on day of ride.

November 8 Saturday

ALL * 25 * DC *10AM *Pierce Mill
Beach to Creek.  (Pierce Mill in Rock Creek Park at the corner of Park Road/Tilden & Rock Creek Parkway; meet at the north parking lot.)  A nice in-town ride with an emphasis on natural scenery.  We’ll ride up Beach Drive, through some nice neighborhoods with some long hills, and down Sligo Creek Parkway. This ride invites ALL pace levels, in the hope that everyone will find someone to ride with.  The ride leader’s pace is C or CC; cue sheets, maps, and a growing cadre of regulars will help those who are faster or slower.  There will be no sweep. We’ll stop at the Takoma Park Co-Op for a quick bite.  Barbara McCann 202/234-2059

CC * 48 * MD * 10 AM * Riley's Lock (RIL)
MarLu Extra-lite. Join first-time leaders Marta and Peter on a familiar scenic fall ride through Sugerloaf Country. No go if roads are wet or icy. Call leaders if weather is doubtful. Marta Gutierrez 301/466-8320; Peter Gruber 301/581-0999

November 9 Sunday

B/CC * 36 * MD * 9:30 AM * Poolesville HS (POO) * 35deg

(about 14 mph)   Enjoy the moderately rolling terrain around Poolesville as we circumnavigate Sugarloaf. One rest stop. No go in rain, snow, high winds or wet roads.  Richard Rose [BikerRich7@aol.com] 301/996-6991.
