From Germantown to Sugraloaf!  Come join me on my first ride as a CC leader.  This ride starts from the same starting point as Brenda Ruby's Friday Rides going on scenic and familiar roads, but a new route.

May 2 Sunday

CC * 33 * MD * 10 AM * Staples Corner SC, Davidsonville
WB&A Trail to Odenton.  From Davidsonville to Odenton via WB&A, on the old rail lines.  This ride is longer and hillier than last month including 5 climbs in the last 10 miles.  We will loop through Crownsville, rest stop at WAWA.  Beautiful Spring weather and listen for the Spring peepers.  Lunch after ride at Rick's American Cafe. [Directions: From Beltway Rt. 50 East, 10 miles, L (North) on 424, Davidsonville Rd., 3 miles to intersection of 450.]

May 8 Saturday

CC(H) * 43/30 * MD * 10:00 AM * Laytons Village SC (LAV) * 45°/35%
No Hipsley Mill This Time!  In case Hipsley is closed, this route will avoid going there.  It is a hilly route despite removal of the hilly Hipsley Mill Road.  As usual, hilly routes are beautiful, this one goes through many farms.  Call leader if weather is doubtful.

May 9 Sunday

CC * 46 * MD * 10 AM * Monocacy MS (MMS)
Less Than Half a Century. Let's hope the weather is better this month and the ride is a go!  The ride has a variety of terrain, but not too many "bad" hills as we stay mainly in the valley.  You should be done in time to observe Mother's Day!
Pat Persson (bizilady2000@yahoo.com) 301-675-9343.

May 15 Saturday

CC * 62/44 * MD * 10 AM * Monocacy MS (MMS)
Short Sheetz.  This is a joint ride with the B's.  We stay in the valley, and just see the mountains in the distance.  This is a great ride over rolling terrain to build base miles, but after the first rest stop if you're running late, we've cued up a shortcut over to the second rest stop to rejoin the metric century.  Slick, huh?

CC/C * 47/30 * MD * 10:30AM * Lackey High School, MD (LAC)
Around Maryland Point.  Some of the quietest and more rural roads you will find with rolling terrain. We will pass extensive wetlands and forests on this scenic byway as we loop around a peninsula and roll  through sleepy Nanjemoy and Marbury.  Longer route gets access to Potomac.  [Directions: From Beltway (I-95) take exit 3-A/Rt.210 (Indian Head Hwy) south for 15 miles. Turn left onto Md 227 (Marshall Hall Rd) at light.  In 1.3 mi go straight on MD-224. In 2.9 mi at "T" intersection, turn left onto MD 225/224, then right in 0.4 mi to remain on MD 224.  In 0.7 mi turn left onto ramp leading up to school lot].

CC * 57/45 * MD * 10:00 AM * Easton Municipal Parking Lot
Ferry Nice Talbot County Loop. This ride is an extended version of the Oxford ferry loop, one of the most popular bicycle routes on the Eastern Shore.  Beginning in downtown Easton MD, it explores the rural countryside of southern Talbot county east of Rt. 50, then heads west to Oxford, crossing the Tred Avon river on the Oxford Bellevue Ferry (believed to be the nation's oldest privately operated ferry service) before returning to Oxford.  This one does not visit St. Michaels.  Rates for ferry: $2.50 [Directions to ride start: Follow Rt 50 East over Chesapeake Bay Bridge onto the Eastern Shore to Easton.  Turn right at Rt 322 towards Easton, St. Michaels and Oxford.  In 0.4 mi turn left at the sign to Easton on unmarked Washington Street.  Follow Washington St. south into downtown Easton and turn right on Dover St. just past the courthouse.  Turn left into the parking lot just past the police station.]

Train to Chesapeake Beach.  Join us on this traditional multigrade ride that usually draws over 100 riders! A very enjoyable ride over delightfully rolling terrain that features an optional visit to the fascinating Railway Museum in Chesapeake Beach (yes, there was a train from DC to this booming resort town of the early 20th century, complete with horse track, casinos and more).  The cue sheet is at http://goldray.com/bikerides/ under the category Harwood 2002.

C/CC * 36/43 * MD * 10 AM * Hagerstown Park & Ride
Antietam and Beyond.  This popular ride starts up again, with a gentle leader who cares more about the history than going at a fast pace.  This scenic ride, with a few hills and many flat stretches goes through the Antietam valley, crosses many early nineteenth-century stone bridges; and both the long and shorter rides tour Antietam Battlefield.  [Directions: I-270 north to Frederick; bear right onto I-70 west to Hagerstown.  Exit at Rt. 65 south (Sharpsburg Pike), turn right at H.K. Douglas Drive (between Wendy's and Cracker Barrel--also note sign to MVA and State Police), turn right into Park & Ride.]
