Viewtrail 100.  Perfectly flat, very scenic.  The Viewtrail 100 is a scenic tour of more than 100 miles of Worcester County's unspoiled countryside. The trail takes a circular route, traveling along small country roads, through farmlands and forest, alongside the Pocomoke River, tributary creeks and beautiful cypress swamps.  If you've ever done the Seagull, you might have noticed the road signs marking the Viewtrail 100.  I've wanted to do the route since I first saw it in
1989, but I've never been up for doing it alone as an unsupported ride.  This is a supported, organized event with rest stops, SAG wagon, etc., and also offers a metric and a 40 mile route.  Registration for the event and directions to the ride start can be found at: http://www.extremedreamevents.com/viewtrail.htm.  Registration fee $35.  For more information about the Viewtrail itself, see the web site at http://www.visitworcester.org/outdoors/bikes.htm

June 19 Sunday

CC * 42+ * 10:00 * South Dorchester HS, Cambridge MD.
Blackwater Wildlife Refuge.  Perfectly flat, very scenic.  Starting from the town of Cambridge, this ride follows the Washington Area Bicycle Atlas route through the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge.  I'll have been at Berlin out on the Eastern Shore the day before for the Viewtrail 100, and I'll be stopping at Cambridge on the way home for this rarely-run ride.  Join me.  [Directions to the ride start:  the High School is at the corner of Church Creek Rd. (MD 16) and Maple Dam Rd (Race St).  From the Capitol Beltway, take Rt. 50 across the Bay Bridge to Cambridge.  Turn right in town on Washington St., then left on Race St.  School is just past Church Creek Rd. on the right.]
