Another Poolesville Ride.  I'm using cue sheets from the century training rides.  We should get a good workout on some familiar roads! Then we can go out and celebrate the holiday weekend!

Once in VA, we head up to Leesburg on the widened shoulders of Route 15 and then wander through picturesque scenery and small-towns. At Point of Rocks the ride crosses back into Maryland and three different route-lengths are available for the return to the school. ALL * 25 * DC * 9 AM *Pierce Mill
Beach to Creek. A nice in-town ride with an emphasis on natural scenery. We’ll ride up Beach Drive, through some nice neighborhoods with some long hills, and down Sligo Creek Parkway. This ride invites ALL pace levels, in the hope that everyone will find someone to ride with. The ride leader’s pace is C or CC; cue sheets, maps, and a growing cadre of regulars will help those who are faster or slower. [Directions: in Rock Creek Park at the corner of Park Road/Tilden & Rock Creek Parkway; meet at the north parking lot.]  There will be no sweep. We’ll stop at the Takoma Park Co-Op for a quick bite.

Rock Creek and Potomac. After a scenic warm-up climb through NW DC, we will head out along the Potomac, loop around the village of that name and return home through Rock Creek Park. The route utilizes a number of quiet, less traveled roads. However, some tolerance of traffic, hills and potholes is required. Possible lunch following the ride at an outdoor cafe. Meet at statue of Gandhi, 21st St, Q St. and Mass. Ave., 1 block west of Dupont Circle Q St. (North) Metro Exit. No go in rain.

July 17 Saturday

C/CC * 47/57 * MD * 9 AM * Urbana Riding Club (Formerly Spring Ridge Horse Center)
Too Hot to Climb.
It's once again time for what has become a bit of a PPTC mid-summer multi-class tradition. Tim and Niqui Johnson have invited us to ride from the Urbana Riding Club, previously known as Spring Ridge Horse Center, in Urbana, MD, and to stay for a swim and picnic at their pool/pavillion.  PPTC and the hosts will provide beverages, burgers, hot dogs and fixings. Please bring a side dish, snack, or dessert to share. Since the event has grown significantly over the past couple of years, we are also asking that everyone make a small contribution of a dollar or two to help defray the cost of burgers and beverages. Rest rooms, showers, and change facilities are available.  See AA ride description for additional information and directions.

July 25 Sunday

CC(H) * 42 * MD * 9 AM * Laytonsville Village SC (LAV) 40%
Reverse Laytonsville Loop: Cycle on one of the most scenic loops as we wind our way from Montgomery, through Howard, & into Carroll counties & back. Almost as hilly as it is scenic!  The ride leader will ride at a leisurely pace from the rear & leave no one behind. One rest stop, approximately half way, at a truck stop convenience store. No go in any precipitation or strong winds. Please come join me on one of my most favorite rides!

July 31 Saturday

CC(MH) * 43/53 * MD * 9 AM * Poolesville HS (POO)
The traditional loop through VA from Poolesville. OK, I'm in a rut. But I really like this ride! The longer route will avoid the return along MD route 28. Please remember to bring $1 (exact change) for the ferry! Leader will ride toward the rear.  Should the ferry be closed due to high water, we will do a 40ish mile ride on the MD side.
Larry Bouterie [yatnola@yahoo.com] 301/346-1243 day of ride.
