Friday Ride!
What better way to spend a Friday morning in August than cycling from Riley's Lock. The terrain is rolling, the scenery very pretty and the roads have little traffic. Ride leaves promptly at 9 AM. We often have lunch after the ride in Potomac. No go if it is raining or looks like rain.

August 6 Saturday

CC(H) * 75 * MD * 9:30 AM * Damascus HS (DAM)
Corn Quest!  We will ride to the annual "Old Fashioned Corn Roast" at the Union Mills Homestead just north of Westminster, where will have lunch: "A serving of fried chicken, applesauce, roll and butter, sliced tomatoes, iced tea or lemonade AND all the Roasted corn you can eat", very reasonably priced at about $10.  Scenery is typical of Carroll County -- lovely, not flat, but no monster mountains either.  Bring $$ and lock. For more information about the homestead, see http://www.unionmills.org.

August 13 Saturday

ALL * 25 * DC * 8:30 AM * Pierce Mill
Beach to Creek.
Ride to the ride start for this short in-town ride: you'll get in more miles, and you'll keep the air a little cleaner. We’ll ride up Beach Drive, through some nice neighborhoods, and down Sligo Creek Parkway. This ride invites ALL pace levels, in the hope that everyone will find someone to ride with. The ride leader’s pace is C or CC; cue sheets, maps, and a growing cadre of regulars will help those who are faster or slower. There will be no sweep. [Directions: in Rock Creek Park at the corner of Park Road/Tilden & Rock Creek Parkway; meet at the north parking lot.]  We’ll stop at the Takoma Park Co-Op for a quick bite.

Cycle through Howard County’s beautiful horse country on scenic, low traffic rural roads. The name of the ride says it all, as we’re sure to see plenty of hills and horses! No go in any precipitation, wet roads or strong winds. Will leave cue sheets on the hood of my car for any latecomers, just please sign in. Please come join me on one of my favorite rides! Added attraction: See the “Great Bunny Statue” (no kidding, bring a carrot).

Annapolis-BWI Hourglass – A PPTC Century Training Ride.
Enjoy some of Anne Arundel County’s finest bike routes and trails while building mileage for the club century. Relatively flat route with a few hills, several stops and lunch at City Dock. Ride traverses the length of the B&A Trail, swoops into Annapolis, Quiet Waters Park, Hillsmere and Bay Ridge before turning back up the trail to the start, where the shorter route ends. The longer route continues north around the rolling BWI loop trail, and back to Glen Burnie for a well-earned munch down at Bruster’s Ice Cream just before the finish. Trail is near JC Penney at Marley Station Mall.

Another AA Ride. Scenic and Shady Ride in AA (Anne Arundel) County. This will be a different ride for me. The ride will go through Annapolis and out toward the Broadneck Peninsula. The return trip will offer the riders an option to visit Annapolis or continue back to the ride start. Fairly flat with minimal traffic, for a city ride.
